Warm-up: Spend 6 minutes playing buzz rolls and paradiddles to “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” by Michael Jackson. Reference the Paradiddle Grid for more variations.
Skill work: Spend 10 minutes perfecting your Tap Drags, Tap Fives, and Tap Rolls. Begin at 80 bpm, and increase by 12 bpm each minute. If you reach your limit, back the tempo down. Focus is on a full, even diddle sound.
Challenge: Can you play the Tap Drags, Fives, and Rolls exercise off the left hand? With buzz rolls? On a pillow? Spend some time having fun with different surfaces, then come back to your drum and notice the difference.
